Contemplation and Action Grants for Social Justice Projects

Do you ever wonder about the intersection of spirituality and social justice?  How to create and sustain balance while making a difference in the world?

Canterbury Campus Ministry at All Saints Episcopal Church in Northfield is excited to offer students at St. Olaf and Carleton Colleges an opportunity to experience the connection between contemplation and action in social justice projects.  Thanks to a gift made in November, 2007 from the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota, grants for social justice projects are available for the 2008-09 academic year and during the summer of 2009.

Short-term projects (up to $1,500 for project expense and stipend) will be implemented during Winter Break at Carleton, or January Term at St. Olaf.  Longer term projects (up to $3,500 for project expense and stipend) will be implemented over two months in the summer of 2009. The maximum number of grants available for 2008-2009 will be a combination of two summer projects, or one summer and two short-term projects or four short-term projects.

Application materials

1.  A cover letter describing the project, including its time frame, and your interest in it.  Include the name of your supervisor either in an organization, if applicable, or for an independent project.

2.  A description of your position or role and the outcome you hope for, both within the organization or project, and in terms of personal growth.

3.  A budget worksheet outlining expenses relating to the project.

4.  Describe any previous experience in social justice work or environmental stewardship, and any bearing that may have on this proposal.

5.  How would you describe God’s part in drawing you to this work, and what part does prayer play as you engage in your project?
